Hemant Patel

Hemant Patel is a Managing Director and a founding member of Patel Nand Legal. Hemant has over 40 years of legal experience in New Zealand and internationally. He completed a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Auckland in 1980, and has since built a career specialising in property law, commercial and business law, trusts, and estate planning.

His legal practice covers a wide range of areas, including the sale and purchase of businesses, business structuring and restructuring, banking and finance, and both commercial and residential property transactions. He also advises on leasing matters, subdivisions, unit titles, and provides guidance on asset protection, trust administration, estate planning, and succession. Hemant is experienced in litigation and dispute resolution, offering clients practical and strategic support across complex legal issues.

Hemant began his legal career in Fiji, where he practiced for over eight years before relocating to New Zealand in 1988. Before co-founding Patel Nand Legal in 2004 with Radhe Nand, Hemant held leadership positions at several well-established law firms in New Zealand, including serving as a Partner.

As Managing Director, Hemant leads the team alongside Radhe Nand, providing strategic direction and fostering a collaborative, client-focused culture. He is known for his clear judgment, practical approach, and commitment to mentoring legal professionals.

Hemant is also actively involved in charitable and community work. He currently serves as Chair of the Friends of Fiji Heart Foundation and offers pro bono legal support to various charitable and religious organisations.
